A&E's critically acclaimed "Hoarders," the first and most-watched series about people struggling with extreme hoarding, returns for a third season with 20 all-new episodes beginning Monday, September 6, 2010.

Each episode of this groundbreaking series follows two different people whose inability to let go of their belongings is so out of control that they are on the verge of personal disaster. In season three of "Hoarders," the stakes couldn't be higher as the people profiled are faced with life changing consequences including eviction, divorce, demolition of their homes, jail time, loss of their children and even death.

In the series premiere, Monday, September 6 at 9PM ET/PT, we meet Adella whose estranged husband has asked his daughters to help their mother clean up the house just weeks before he dies. Her years of hoarding have torn the family apart, costing her a previous house, her marriage, and relationships with her children. Now, despite years of conflict, her daughters feel they must honor their father by helping to save their mother's home from being condemned by the city. Meanwhile, Teri's husband is so fed up with her hoarding that he threatens a divorce. The couple's two young children are living in a home so cluttered that the door doesn't fully open, the kitchen is inaccessible, and neither has a proper bed. Conditions are so bad that the therapist feels legally compelled to call Child Protective Services soon after arriving at the home.

In the second episode, Monday September 6 at 10PM ET/PT, tempers flare as Gordon and Gaye along with their two grown children are given 72 hours to vacate a house filled with decades of debris. City Code Enforcement has served the family with a condemnation notice if they don't clean up and make repairs to a home that is crumbling around them, and Animal Control has removed their seven cats. In stark contrast, Sir Patrick lives in a treasure trove of a hoard that he refers to as 'Camelot.' Every inch of his home is filled with treasures -- goblets, dolls, oriental inlay screens, fountains and artwork which have put him in debt to the point where his church has to pay his electric bills. Sir Patrick hopes to save off bankruptcy by auctioning off his prized possessions - but can he part ways with these items?

"Hoarders" not only captures the drama as experts work to put each hoarder on the road to recovery but also highlights the individual's inner challenges and triumphs. Although cleaning marks the first step of tackling this disorder, success is not definite. For some individuals, throwing away the tiniest object is so mentally traumatizing that they will not be able to allow the cleaning process to go on... no matter how it may impact their future. For others, professional help and an organizer's instruction give them the strength to let go. At the end of each episode we'll find out who has been able to keep their hoarding behavior under control and who has fallen into the deep end of this painful disease.

"Hoarders" is produced for A&E by Screaming Flea Productions. Executive Producers are Jodi Flynn, Matt Chan and Dave Severson. A&E Executive Producers are Robert Sharenow and Andy Berg.

  • A&E Network Greenlights Non-Scripted Pilot "The Unexplained"

A&E Network has ordered a documentary pilot from prolific producer and director Doug Limon (The Bourne Ultimatum, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Swingers) titled "The Unexplained," which will focus on strange phenomena and paranormal experiences, it was announced today by Rob Sharenow, Senior Vice President, Non-Fiction & Alternative Programming for A&E Network and BIO Channel.

"The Unexplained," Liman's first foray into non scripted television, uses his world renowned storytelling and filmmaking expertise to deliver real-life stories that take audiences to places they have never been before: investigating, questioning, experiencing and chasing down answers to the most bizarre stories and strangest paranormal occurrences. Possible topics for the series are past life regressions, real-life hauntings, near-death and out-of-body experiences and other chilling personal encounters. These are first-person emotional stories of life, death and the possible in-between that have never been told.

In the pilot, a five year-old boy from rural Oklahoma begins telling his mother extensive details about his past life. He says he lived in Hollywood during the 1930's, claiming to have been wealthy and having friendships with the likes of Rita Hayworth. After hearing her son give vivid details about an era no five year-old should know about, the mother checks out some library books about early Hollywood. When she showed her son the books, he paused on a page with a black and white film still that had no captions. Much to her surprise, her son points to a man in the photo and screams, "That's me! You found me mommy! That's me, and that's George!" The man he was pointing to was an actor and "George" later turned out to be George Raft in Paramount's 1932 film "Night After Night". This is the amazing story of a young family's emotional journey to unravel and understand what they believe to be their son's previous life identity.

"The Unexplained" is produced for A&E by Air Extreme with Doug Liman and Russ Stratton serving as executive producers. Executive producers for A&E are Robert Sharenow and Elaine Frontain Bryant.

  • A&E's New Real-Life Series "Teach: Tony Danza" Premieres October 1

A&E® announced today the series premiere of "Teach: Tony Danza" on Friday, October 1 at 10PM ET/PT. The seven-episode one-hour series chronicles the experience of the veteran film, television and stage star as he steps into the toughest role yet, as a first-year teacher at Philadelphia's largest urban high school.

Long before his iconic acting career, which includes roles in "Taxi" and "Who's The Boss," Tony Danza received a degree in History Education. During the 2009-2010 school year, he took on his most challenging and rewarding role yet as he stepped into the classroom as a full-time teacher at Philadelphia's Northeast High School. "Teach: Tony Danza" follows the first year-teacher as he instructs a 10th-grade English class with 26 students in back-to-back 45-minute periods.

"Teaching is something I always wanted to do. Getting the opportunity to do it at Northeast High School and seeing the difference a teacher can make was really a dream come true," said Danza. "I hope the series shows what it's actually like to be a teacher in a public school in America, and shines a light on some of the problems facing us all as we try to educate our children. I also hope it might inspire other people to think about how they might help."

The series will look at the challenges Danza faced and the rewards he experienced as a first-year high school teacher. Under the watchful eye of Northeast Principal Linda Carroll and in-classroom teaching coach David Cohn, Danza applied incredible creativity and ceaseless dedication in his day-to-day tasks of planning lessons and executing them in the classroom, administering quizzes and exams, grading homework, engaging in small learning communities with other faculty, and meeting with parents. Beyond the real-life duties of teaching, Danza took on quite a few additional roles outside the classroom including helping the football team, the band, and the debate team, and organizing a successful fundraiser for the school. And he became a true member of the Philadelphia community, partaking in events with the mayor, singing the national anthem at a Phillies game and lending his support to a variety of charity and fundraising events.

"Teach: Tony Danza" is produced for A&E Network by Boutique TV, Inc. with Tony Danza, Leslie Greif and Adam Reed as executive producers and Donny Jackson and Erin Kelly as co-executive producers. Adam Freeman is executive producer for Boutique TV. Executive producers for A&E are Robert Sharenow and Neil A. Cohen.

  • A&E Network Greenlights Four-Hour Special Event "Beyond Scared Straight!"

A&E Network has ordered "Beyond Scared Straight!," a four-hour special event executive produced by Arnold Shapiro and based on his Academy Award and multiple Emmy®-Winning documentary "Scared Straight!," that will profile unique approaches to juvenile crime prevention in prisons around the U.S. The four-hour special event will premiere in Winter 2011.

"I have seen so many teenagers turn their lives around after experiencing inmate-run prison programs like 'Scared Straight' that I am grateful for the opportunity to bring more of these programs and stories of transformation to television," said Arnold Shapiro.

"Scared Straight!" has become an iconic name and cultural phenomenon over the years. The film made a huge impact - showcasing the radical and effective juvenile intervention program that took place in a New Jersey prison and, since they were created, both the prison program and the film have turned countless kids away from drugs, violence and crime. The power of the original "Scared Straight!" program has inspired dozens of inmate-run intervention programs in men's and women's prisons across the country; and our series will showcase some of them. Under the auspices of Arnold Shapiro, "Beyond Scared Straight!" profiles the new approach to keeping today's kids from becoming tomorrow's convicts.

Much like the original version of "Scared Straight!," these youthful offender programs put boys and girls of all ethnicities, ranging in age from 12-18, into intensive one-day in-prison sessions that show them the realities of life behind bars. However, in many dramatic ways, these 21st Century programs are very different from the original because today's youth needs a different approach. For current teens, city streets are as dangerous as the life they believe exists behind bars. TV, film and music have glorified the gang and prison experience and "scaring" teens is no longer as easy of a task. As a result, inmates have had to adapt their methods - making it more a combination of intimidation, information and compassion - and the results for the new program have proven to be equally as effective.

Each stand alone one-hour edition of "Beyond Scared Straight" will focus on a different prison program in the U.S., and will follow four or five at-risk teens and pre-teens. Viewers will follow them as they attend the program, experience their intensive one-day in-prison session and then follow up with them two-months later to see the lasting impressions the program has left on them.

In the first installment of the series, at-risk teens from Washington D.C. and Baltimore are brought face to face with the inmates of the "Inmates Making Positive Attempts to Change Teens" (I.M.P.A.C.T.) program at the Maryland Correctional Institution in Jessup, MD, in the hopes of setting them on a straight path. In this program, there is no wall between the kids and the prison's general population. The kids eat the food, are exposed to the harsh realities of life behind bars, including entering a general population cellblock where dozens of taunting inmates surround them. Some teens are brought to tears. Others are defiant to the end. The five teens featured have offenses that include auto theft, shoplifting and concealed weapons. Stephen has a brother in prison who taught him to back down to no one, Orben is convinced he can joke himself out of any dangerous situation, and the precocious 13-year-old Sahn has already been arrested six times. This is an opportunity of a lifetime for each of the teens, one that could change each of their lives forever.

"Beyond Scared Straight!" is produced by Arnold Shapiro Productions for A&E Network. Arnold Shapiro is Executive Producer and Paul J. Coyne is Co-Executive producer. Executive Producers for A&E are Robert Sharenow and Laura Fleury.
